Getting Started Building a Toothpick Bridge

When building your bridge, bring together the following items. Your construction zone (desk area or table) will need to be used for approximately 2 – 3 days.

¨

Tape – Masking or clear tape.

¨

Nail Clippers – Used to cut and trim toothpicks to size. Although nail clippers are preferred, a shape knife or razor will work as well.

¨

Large Paperclip – Used during testing. Any metal hook will work as well.

¨

Pencil or pen

¨

Cardboard – Flat piece of cardboard used as the platform. Should be at least 18” long by 9” wide. Any side of an old box will do.

¨

Soda can or plastic water bottle – Used as the container to hold the weight while testing. If you have a small basket with a center handle, that will work as well.
